If your current life trajectory has you contemplating a full restart, here are 9 steps that don't include “1. Have you tried manifesting?”.

  1. First, be honest with yourself about what isn't working for you anymore. Whether it's your sucky job or an overall feeling that you're sleepwalking through life, speak it, out loud. Look in the mirror and say “my job fucking sucks and I want to move to Barcelona!” or whatever you think it might be. Accountability starts with confronting things head on.
  1. Dedicate real effort into getting your mind and body in the right mindframe to deal with change. Whether it's talking to someone to unpack hangups, a 10 minute sit outside at lunchtime, or screaming into the void to channel any lingering rage.
  1. Make space for projects into your routine. Always wished you could relearn the piano or need to get cracking on that novel? Hobbies are happiness boosters, and if you get really good, your dream of being a piano-playing-novelist might come true.
  1. Speaking of novels, make better content choices. You don’t have to read War and Peace, but put your phone down. How many hours a day do you spend on it? The key to happiness is not found inside TikTok. Unless you want to be a TikToker? Then I guess you should start making videos. Constantly expanding your perspective is crucial for anyone craving metamorphosis.
  1. Reflect deeply on close relationships. Which ones uplift you and which solely enable your worst lethargic impulses? Create new space for enriching connections. New friends are good.
  1. Finances. The unavoidable topic. Can you budget, make a savings plan and examine debts? Confront it instead of avoiding looking at your accounts. Options require self-funding and life is expensive. Or just resort to theft, the maximum sentence for theft is seven years' custody in the UK if you’re caught, which is loads of time to think about what you want!
  1. Still not sure of your next big vision? Start saying yes to different things. Experiences are the quickest way to discover new, unexpected trajectories.
  1. Once you've found the seedling of the path to reinvention, commit. Power through the night classes, start saving the cash, make time to write the novel or book the cheapest flight you can find.
  1. Most importantly, remind yourself why you were driven to overhaul things in the first place. Galvanising self-belief doesn’t magically sustain itself. Regularly reconnect to your driving motivations when the road ahead feels daunting and long.

It’s all up to you, baby. You’re a star.
