You just moved to a new city, you've spunked all your student loan in the first term. You're probably in your late teens or early twenties and your bones are not that weary yet because you can still go out till 6am and make your 9am lecture if you really, really have to. You have like 3 lectures a week and unless you're doing a degree worthy of a place on the University Challenge team, you've got time to make some cash on the side. Your business degree isn't that bad. I went to uni. I know all this to be true.

Here's some legitimate ways to make money in the 165 hours a week you don't have lectures.

1. Work in a Coffee Shop

Old school, I know, but there's always a Costa, Starbucks or if you're lucky a cute independent coffee shop hiring that doesn't stay open that late on the weekends so you still have time to go home, kneck a bottle of Barefoot rosé and head out after. They also usually close around Christmas, unlike retail, so you can go home and not get roped into working Boxing day and if they don't you can just quit and find another one in January! Although I wouldn't really recommend this.

2. Work on Campus

There's stuff you can do if you have a campus-based uni like working in the library or at university events but then you normally have to wear one of the university t-shirt and a lanyard and they're pretty uncool. So maybe only do this if you're a loser.

3. Freelancing

If you have skills in areas like writing, graphic design or social media management, you can take on freelance work, but to be honest this takes a lot of effort and time to get jobs and you're lazy.

4. Paid Internships

Some companies offer internships at a basic wage and even though I know you want to spend the Summer smoking weed and dossing around, they're a pretty good idea in the long run. If you actually check you uni email, they're pretty good at sharing those opportunities with you.

5. Participating in Research Studies

I still get texts from FluCamp. If you're a wheezy inhaler-using loser like me, I would definitely spend 11 days in isolation with the flu for like £2000. Although you have to meet a certain criteria, be available on specific dates and sit in a room alone for 11 days being poked, prodded and potentially feeling like shit, watching Netflix and boredom wanking yourself into oblivion.

6. Selling Stuff Online

If you're a fiend for ripping people off by reselling 'vintage' Y2K items on Depop then this can be reasonably lucrative! Or if you've got particularly nice feet or aren't adverse to selling your knickers, you can find out more about that here.

7. Babysitting or Pet Sitting

Babysitting is a bad idea for you. Babies can't eat super noodles and you can't make anything else. Pet sitting services like Rover can be a flexible way to earn money, if you deem yourself responsible enough to look after another living thing.

8. Brand Repping

Brands will come to your uni fairs and try to sell their products to you but some of them will look for ambassadors. They might not pay you in cash, but you'll probably be paid in a tonne of freebies which is sometimes just as good.
